Kolkata

Formerly known as Calcutta, the capital of West Bengal, and one of the metropolitan cities in India. Kolkata remembered us to many personalities like Mother Teresa, Rabindranath Tagore, Satyajit Ray and Subhash Chandra Bose. Situated on the bank of the Hooghly River. The city is divided into various regions namely the west Kolkata, east Kolkata, south Kolkata, north Kolkata and the central Kolkata. The city is bordered by Hooghly on east , Howrah on west , south 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas and the Nadia.

Kolkata is well connected to the International cities & Major cities of the country. The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Dum Dum) is to the north of the city is about 17 km from the city center. Daily flights connected to major International cities & Indian Metro cities.

The Port of Kolkata, The port hosts passenger services to Port Blair, capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. freighter service to ports throughout India and around the world is operated by the Shipping Corporation of India. Ferry services connect Kolkata with its twin city of Howrah, located across the Hooghly River.

Situated on the Eastern Railway, It is well connected most cities in West Bengal and to other major cities in India. It is connected to Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh). Kolkata has headquarters of Eastern Railway and the South-Eastern Railway.

It is well connected by National Highways as well, NH 2 which passes from five states Delhi, Haryana,Uttar pradesh,Bihar,Jharkhand,& connected Asansol, Durgapur, Burdwan city, Serampore, & Kolkata. NH 6 which connects states Gujrath, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Odisha,Jharkhand,& Kolkata.

Local transport by train is provided by the Kolkata Suburban Railway, which connects major areas like Garia, Alipore, Shalimar, baruipara, belur & subhashnagar. The Kolkata Metro with underground railway network which is the first one in India, used by millions to travel. It starts from Dum Dum & covers Shyambazar, M.G. road, Park Street, Netaji Bhvan, tollygunge, Garia bazaar & ends at new garia.

Kolkata is the only Indian city with a tram network.

Kolkata is home to many industrial units operated by large public- and private-sector corporations; major sectors include steel, heavy engineering, mining, minerals, cement, pharmaceuticals, food processing, agriculture, electronics, textiles, and jute. ITC Limited, Coal India Limited, National Insurance Company, Industries and Britannia Industries rank among the companies headquartered in the city.

The Tea Board of India and the Ordnance Factories Board of the Ministry of Defense are also headquartered in the city. Kolkata hosts the headquarters of three major public-sector banks: Allahabad Bank, UCO Bank, and the United Bank of India.
